Your Diabetes Checklist
It is important to review the American Diabetes Association's recommended screening tools that can keep you at your optimal health. These simple suggestions can prevent and help identify the early onset of complications:
- Have your Hemoglobin A1C done 2 to 4 times a year. Target goal of A1C less than 7%.
- Have your Cholesterol (lipid panel) checked every year: Total Cholesterol less than 200 HDL (good cholesterol) above 45 LDL (bad cholesterol) less than 100 (if you have heart disease less than 70) Triglycerides less than 150
- Have your Blood Pressure Checked regularly and your BP goal less than 130/80.
- Have a Urine Microalbumin test every year.
- Have a Dilated Eye Exam yearly.
- Have a Dental Exam/Cleaning twice a year.
- Examine your feet daily and have a Comprehensive Foot Exam at least yearly.
- Get an annual Flu Shot and a Pneumococcal Vaccination as recommended by your physician.
- Maintain a Healthy Weight.
- Don't Smoke.
