What is Behavioral Health Care?

Behavioral health care is care for both mental health and chemical dependency/addiction problems. MVP provides easy access to Behavioral Health Providers by assisting in linking our members with the appropriate provider for members depending on the member's problem and geographical location. Behavioral Health Providers include Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Social Workers, Addiction Specialists, and other licensed health professionals who specialize in Behavioral Health.

Because they know you best, your Primary Care Physician can also provide some expert counseling, and prescribe appropriate medications when needed.Your primary Care Physician may suggest that you see a Behavioral Health Specialist for further counseling.

All behavioral health treatment requires authorization prior to attending your first appointment. Since MVP no longer accepts Primary Care Physician referrals, you must use the contact numbers below to register your care.

• In NY - contact MVP's Behavioral Health Access Center line at 1-800-568-0458 (select option # 3), between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. to advise you or refer you to a behavioral health practitioner.
• In VT - contact PrimariLink at 1-800-320-5895 between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. to advise you or refer you to a behavioral health practitioner.
